The major Indian International Airports provide the foreign visitors easy access to the country. There are mainly four major Indian International Airports in the country. Here for your benefit we are providing you in a comprehensive way all the details about those airports:
Indira Gandhi or Delhi International Airport: Located in Delhi, the Indira Gandhi or Delhi International Airport is one of the main hub for domestic and international airlines. This airport is regarded as the second busiest airports in the South Asia.

This airport was earlier known as the Palam Airport and with the inauguration of a new international terminal it was renamed as the Indira Gandhi International airport. The new terminal was shaped like a trapezoid and it contains altogether 9 jet bridges. The older Palam Airport which is currently known as the Terminal 1, is exclusively used for domestic operations. Terminal 1 has further been divided into three separate terminals - 1A which is used for domestic flights of state owned Indian), 1B which is used for all other domestic airlines and Domestic Arrival Terminal. There is also a separate Technical Area for the use of VVIP movements.
- Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (Mumbai):
The Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport which was formerly known as the Sahar International Airport is the main access to the central part of India. The airport is spread over an operational area of 1450 acres and it is India's biggest international and domestic aviation hub. It serves the metropolitan area of Mumbai since the terminals are located in the suburbs of Santacruz and Sahar. The Mumbai Internaional airport is the busiest in India as well as in the South Asia. Recently the Mumbai-Delhi route has been ranked by Official Airline Guide (OAG) as the seventh busiest domestic route in the world. There are said to be more than 50 flights daily between the two airports in each direction. The airport is the primary international gateway to the subcontinent and served by 46 international airlines and is also the base for the flag carrier Air India. It also serves as a hub for domestic operators Indian Airlines, Jet Airways, JetLite, Go Air, Spice Jet, IndiGo Airlines and Kingfisher Airlines.
- Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport (Kolkata):
Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport is located in Dum Dum, West Bengal. This airport is located approximately at the distance of 17 km from the city centre. The airport has three terminals: a domestic terminal, an international terminal and a cargo terminal.
- Chennai International Airport: Chennai International Airport is located in Meenambakkam which is only 7 km towards the south of Chennai. This is the third largest international gateway into the country and the third busiest airport in India after Mumbai and Delhi. This is the main air hub for south India which is dealing with almost 10 million passengers every year, obviously the number is always increasing and serving more than 50 different airlines.
